Volunteer Training

Flagler Volunteer Services and our partners regularly offer training for volunteers to be better prepared to serve our community.

Classes are held at the Flagler County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Bldg. 3, Bunnell, FL, which is in the Flagler County Government Complex.  The EOC is located behind the Government Services Building.

Disaster Volunteer Training Series

Several FVS programs educate volunteers about disaster preparedness for hazards in their area and train them in disaster response skills. Classes are the second Thursday of every month. See below for a listing:

Animals and Disasters

Thursday, Feb. 13th, 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Active Assailant Training

Shelter Volunteer Training

Thursday, Apr. 9th, 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

CERT Disaster Medical Workshop

Hurricane Preparedness Workshop

Thursday, Jun. 11th, 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Other Training Opportunities

Incident Command System (ISC) 100 Training

Wednesday, February 19th, 1:30 – 5:00 p.m.

This course introduces the Incident Command System (ICS) and provides the foundation for higher level ICS training. It describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System.  Please register by emailing EOC@FlaglerCounty.org


 SkyWarn Storm Spotter Training

Saturday, March 7th, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Volunteers will learn what to look for in a storm; to identify local severe weather hazards; how weather watches and warnings are issued; and how to report potentially dangerous weather conditions so that early warnings may be issued.  Please register by emailing EOC@FlaglerCounty.org


 Amateur (HAM) Radio Testing Sessions

Saturday, March 21st, 1:00 p.m.

Get your amateur radio technician license! This free one evening class is offered by Flagler County Emergency Management. Testing sessions are usually offered soon after the class.  Please register by emailing EOC@FlaglerCounty.org


Instructor Development Workshop

Tuesday – Thursday, March 24th – 26th (in Volusia, FL)

This course primarily serves to give instructors, most of whom already have years of instructional experience within their own organizations, insight into adult education principles as well as the opportunity to comment on and improve their instructional style. The course focuses on enhancing instructional skills that may be applied within DHS-certified courses, but it also discusses organization specific policies, procedures and practices.

FEMA Online Training

At your own pace

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Emergency Management Institute offers many online training courses concerning Emergency and Disaster topics.  Check out the courses at FEMA Online Training


CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Basic Training – The CERT program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
