The Giving Store

For more than 25 years, during the holidays, Flagler Volunteer Services and the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has successfully conducted a Giving Store program in Flagler County.  The Giving Store allows local children in Kindergarten through 5th grade the opportunity to select Holiday gifts for each member of their household free of charge.  The goal has been to teach these children the “Joy of Giving” during the holiday season.  This year due to Covid-19 the Giving Store is in jeopardy.

Our agency has been forced to cancel all of our fundraising events that provide the needed funds to conduct the Giving Store.  This includes two Rummage Sales and our Giving Store Luncheon.  We are reaching out to the public and local businesses in hopes of raising a minimum of $7,500 to ensure that we can have a modified version of our store so that local children can still experience giving their family members a gift and learning the valuable lesson that it feels “better to give than to receive” during the holiday season.

Our Giving Store event is different than other Holiday events because it’s purpose is allowing children the opportunity to give gifts instead of receiving them.  In an average year we serve over 400 children in Flagler County and provide more than 2,500 gifts.  The gifts can be for any age from a baby sibling to a grandparent who may reside with them.  The event makes the holidays brighter for the children who participate, their family members and the volunteers that help make the Giving Store so successful.

If we are unable to raise the $7,500 by October 1, 2020 we will be forced to cancel the 2020 Giving Store.

Please help us ensure that this unique holiday event can continue by making a donation of any size today.

THE 2020 GIVING STORE PLAN

If we are able to host the Giving Store this year there will most likely be changes to the way the store is conducted.  Our plan as of now is as follows:

Parents will need to register their children online.

After registering our volunteers will contact each child and ask them (from a list of items in our inventory) what they would like to give to their family members.

The gifts will be set out for the volunteers to act as personal shoppers for the children – they will “shop” for the child based on the wishes provided.

Volunteers will then wrap and label the gifts.  They will be put in a bag for the child.

There will be a selected day/time for the family to come to a drive through pick up to receive their bag of gifts.

Although this will not be the same experience as in years past it will allow us to still provide the children a choice of items for their family members and will help to brighten the holidays for the children, their families and the volunteers who participate.
