The “FVS Reading Program”, RSVP mentoring program is a one that matches volunteers with students in grades K-3 in the Flagler County School District. Volunteers work one on one in 30 minute increments each week with selected students to help them develop their reading skills and self-confidence in reading out loud. Students are encouraged to read out loud to their “reading/mentor”. This one on one approach with students helps with fluency, pronunciation, comprehension and builds their comfort and enjoyment in reading. Students are also encouraged to read to family members when they are at home.
Over the school year, periodic reviews and surveys track the effectiveness of the program.
Volunteers are required to attend 4 training sessions through the year in related areas.
